Paris, 1887. Une riche Américaine, mariée à un baron anglais, tient sa propre version d'un salon parisien. La baronne accueille ses invités dans un décor de photographies, d'art visuel et de meubles extravagants, éclairé à la lumière électrique. Elle décide d'y amener un enfant sauvage, une jeune fille ayant été élevée jusqu'alors par des cochons, un vrai mystère scientifique! Ces innovations ne plaisent néanmoins pas au baron, un être fourbe et mesquin, ni aux aristocrates à l'esprit fermé.
